Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Western Release Teased by Falcom

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Western Release Teased by Falcom

PS4 exclusive Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will be released in the west at some point.

Back in September, Falcom announced Traditional Chinese and Hangul localizations for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. A few days ago, Falcom published its latest financial earnings and plans for the future. These plans once again mentioned Chinese and Korean releases of Yx IX are coming soon. However, the documents also mentioned that Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will be coming soon in other regions as well. Falcom also mentioned they will “continue releasing their games worldwide, in Japan, North America, Asia, and Europe, with a focus on the Ys series and the Trails series”.

Back when we interviewed Falcom’s president Toshihiro Kondo, he told us Ys IX: Monstrum Nox‘ western release wasn’t planned yet because they were focusing on finishing the game first. Despite that, it was obvious the game will be coming one day seeing all the recent Ys games came over. Now to see when we’ll get an official announcement about Ys IX‘ western release and who will handle the localization. Probably NIS America.

As I’m currently playing Ys IX in Japanese, one interesting bit I’d add is how Falcom did think about future localizations when developing the game. Some of the text in Ys IX, which could have been a hassle to localize system-wise, is already in English. One example is the result screen after the Grimwald Night battles. Japanese players are used to game-related English terms too.

In the same documents, Falcom also stated that “older games in the Kiseki/Trails series will be upgraded and coming to PS4 as Kai versions”, heavily hinting at PS4 remakes of Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki. Falcom’s financial earnings and future plans are accessible here and here.

In Japan, Ys IX released exclusively for PS4 on September 26.
