The Sonic the Hedgehog Hollywood movie adaptation is back with a new trailer revealing Sonic's redesign after that one fiasco. Soon after the trailer launched, ex-Sonic Team leader Yuji Naka shared some comments on Twitter. We translated them:

The tweet above has Yuji Naka mentioning he kinda wanted to see both the new and old design: "Sonic's new design for the movie is out. However, it seems they're making it as if the old design didn't exist, as the movie official account's old tweets were deleted. I wanted to see a special DVD version of the movie which used the old design. Too bad."

In a follow-up tweet, Yuji Naka added: "This is the new trailer with Sonic's new design. The design is much more Sonic-like now that he's wearing gloves. However, his eyes still aren't joined together, as expected. I can't help but feel weird about that one point. But I'm looking forward to the movie's release."

When the previous design was revealed, Yuji Naka mentioned how Sonic felt weird without gloves, among other things.

If you're wondering about my own opinion, Sonic does looks much better now. I'm not interested in the movie though. The dialogues lines in the trailer are all trying so hard to impress and in turn, feel so lame. I can't bear that whole "trying to be so cool" approach a lot of western movies have. Sonic indeed always had this personality, especially starting his Sonic Adventure incarnation. However, it actually feels cool in the games or in anime like Sonix X. Here, it's just embarrassing.

As a side note, the Sega logo made of iconic Sega games is pretty cool. You can spot both Sakura Shinguji and Sakura Amamiya in there too.

Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie is planned for a February 14 release. Yuji Naka celebrated his 54th birthday on September 17 and teased he's currently developing an original action game at Square Enix.

Update:

Yuji Naka tweeted a bit more:

"A Japanese subbed version of the Sonic movie trailer is also available. But what's up with the "In order to save my planet, I had to come to yours?" line? This is news to me. And I just noticed we'll get the movie later in Japan, on March 27."

This trailer is slightly different than the English one. And I agree, the line about saving Sonic's planet doesn't seems to have anything to do with the movie's plot, at least from what we're seeing in the trailers.  Yuji Naka continued: "The Japanese official twitter of the Sonic movie also mentioned how "the movie will reveal the mystery behind Sonic's arrival on our earth", so we'll probably learn what that line means in the movie."
