Playism released the prologue trailer for the upcoming reimagining of Yume Nikki -Dream Diary- coming to PC on February 23.

The trailer shows gameplay of the main character, Madotsuki, as she experiences dreams unlike anyone else, and they sometimes turn out to be horrific. Playism has stated that "this prologue is a collection of images edited and reprocessed from the opening sequence of Yume Nikki -Dream Diary-. Hidden within are crucial hints regarding the game’s 'reimagining'."

Additionally, it’s promoted that, like the original, this reimagining has been created using RPG Maker tools. However, Yume Nikki -Dream Diary- is not a remake of the original game released in 2004. Instead, it is a complete reimagining of the original release with influences from recent indie juggernauts to create an experience that is totally unique.

The team at Playism and Active Gaming Media have partnered with Yume Nikki publisher Kadokawa Games and original creator Kikiyama to bring this project to life for a new generation of gamers. Yume Nikki -Dream Diary- will also feature new creatures that have laid dormant in Kikiyama’s mind for 16 years.

DualShockers has covered Yumi Nikki in a previous feature detailing some of the best Japanese indie games that you’ve never played. Our staff gives an in-depth explanation of Yume Nikki's development and why it is praised by those who have played it.
