After the disappointing introduction of Xerneas into Pokemon GO, players now have the opportunity to battle and capture Yveltal.

Pokemon Y's signature legendary is appearing in raids across the world and there is no doubt that players are hoping it can have more of an impact on the meta than its Pokemon X counterpart.

With that in mind, let's take a look at Yveltal in Pokemon GO, including its Max CP, best moveset and its place in the PVP meta.

Yveltal Max CP and Other Details

Yveltal has an interesting type combination of Dark/Flying. It joins the likes of the Murkrow and Vullaby families with this typing.

Because of this, Yveltal has five total resistances - including a 4x resistance against Ground/Psychic-type moves and then regular resistances to Dark, Ghost and Grass-types.

Alongside its five resistances, Yveltal has four weaknesses - Electric, Fairy, Ice and Rock-type moves.

While Yveltal doesn't share much with Xerneas, one thing the pair do share are max CP's - at level 40, Yveltal has a max CP of 3781. When powered up with XL Candies, it's CP can reach as high as 4275.

Like Xerneas, this means Yveltal ranks in the top three Pokemon based on highest CP that are currently in the game.

Yveltal Best Moveset

Arguably, Yveltal's best moveset takes advantage of it's Dark-typing to gain some very decent STAB moves, as well as a slightly more unorthadox move that helps it deal with one of the divisions most prominent types.

The optimum moveset you're going to want to run is:

  • Snarl - Fast Move
  • Dark Pulse - Charge Move
  • Focus Blast - Charge Move

You can of course opt for either Hurricane, which takes advantage of STAB or Psychic, however, these moves are slightly more limited when used in a PVP environment.

How Does Yveltal Perform in PVP?

It's not worth considering Yveltal for any other league than the Master League and that's for good reason.

According to PVPoke, Yveltal nestles itself comfortably in the top 10 Pokemon in said league's meta, ranking 7th overall.

With the above moveset, it picks up wins against the likes of:

  • Melmetal (2nd)
  • Snorlax (5th)
  • Garchomp (12th)
  • Excadrill (14th)
  • Magnezone (16th)
  • Metagross (18th)
  • Swampert (19th)
  • Palkia (21st)

Plus many more. It would definitely pay to get yourself a good IV Yveltal for the GO Battle Leagues ahead.
