The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has taken the gaming world by storm, attracting inventive players by droves. Finding ingenious ways to break the game logic has always been a popular race, as Breath of the Wild speedrunners will no doubt attest to.
Resourceful players have already started discovering new and varied ways to game the system in Tears of the Kingdom. In particular, the duplication glitch can net you some insane cash if used correctly. All you need is a shield, an item to duplicate, and a willingness to take the easier way out.
Items Needed For The Duplication Glitch
For this to work, you need to do some slight preparation.
- Have a shield equipped. Any shield will do; it doesn’t matter if it is fused with anything or not.
- Have at least one type of material you want to duplicate. If you’re after cash, this might be a diamond or another material that has a high sale value.
- Have only one of the item. The item doesn’t matter; what matters is that there can’t be more than one of them. We’re using Mighty Banana for the example below.
How To Perform The Duplication Glitch
- Ensure you have a shield equipped.
-
Open up your inventory and find the material you want to duplicate (We’re using Ruby as an example).
-
Drop all of that material from your inventory. If you have more than 5 of these items, this will take multiple goes.
-
Pick up what you just dropped and open up your inventory by pressing +. You’ll see that the item you just picked up is in the last spot in your inventory.
- Exit out of the menu by pressing B.
- Hold out your shield by pressing ZL. Jump by pressing X and begin the animation for shield surfing by pressing A.
-
As soon as the animation starts, press + to pause the screen. You should be mid-jump in the air, and your shield shouldn’t be touching the ground.
- In the pause menu, go to the materials section, and find any item you only have one of. Press A to hold this item.
- Then, find the item you want to duplicate in the last spot of your inventory.
-
Press A repeatedly until your hands are full. Your menu screen should look something like this.
- Exit out of the menu by pressing B.
-
Pick up everything you see dropped on the ground.
-
And that’s it! The number of items you dropped in the menu will double when you pick them back up.
Open your inventory again to see if the duplication glitch worked. You’ll see we had two rubies when we started, and now we have four. With this glitch, only a certain number of items can be duplicated at most based on how many Link can hold at one time. But you can easily repeat this glitch multiple times with no drawbacks.
